From a young age, I have had a fascination with road construction. Whenever asphalt was being laid somewhere in the neighbourhood, I always wanted to be right on top of it and had to look my father in the eye. In those days, by the way, these work visits were not exactly healthy because of the use of tar as a binding agent in asphalt. When, after secondary school, I had to choose a continuation course, I decided with conviction in civil engineering. I was confident that my love of tinkering and creating would be done full justice in this field.

After specialising in traffic engineering at Delft University of Technology, I immediately had the ambition to help set the tone in road construction in the Netherlands. In my career as a management and maintenance specialist, road building and road construction consultant and manager of research, development and innovation the road building industry, I have enjoyed and been successful in developing, continuously updating and realising my vision on road building, providing solutions for complex knowledge-intensive strategic/tactical issues and practice-oriented road building consultancy.

This has allowed me to develop into a leading road construction expert, who masters and practices many facets of road construction at strategic, tactical and operational level. In doing so, I have always been convinced that it is very important for a relatively small sector like the Dutch road construction industry to also actively contribute to its development and continuity.

After decades of dedicating myself to the development and application of knowledge for distinguishing leading road construction companies, it is time for a new step in my career.
